Atabey y La Creación del Canto is a visual ode to the Taíno goddess Atabey, mother of the waters, fertility, and creation. In this painting, I reimagine the ancient symbol of Atabey in human form, capturing the sacred moment of birth—both literal and spiritual. Emerging from her womb is el coquí, the tiny frog whose song is the heartbeat of Puerto Rico. This piece honors the divine feminine and the power of Taíno cosmology, suggesting that the island’s first song came not from man, but from Mother Earth herself. It’s a creation story told through form, sound, and ancestral memory.
